Now in operation for 25 years, NSF CMi is one of the UK’s leading health & safety and food safety consultancies; They are CIEH, RSPH and HABC accredited training providers and lead NSF International’s food assurance operations outside North America.
Through our international network of offices we deliver services and expertise and developing food supply operations in all regions of the world. NSF CMi services include training, consulting, technical and risk services that enable companies both to comply with legislation and industry standards and gain competitive advantage in their markets.
Can you tell us a little more about both your food facilities and the arrangement with key employers?
We are a provider of training, inspection and consultancy services so as such we do not operate any food facilities. We are based in Oxfordshire but work extensively throughout the UK and globally. We have a number of training rooms at our offices in Long Hanborough but tend to provide training at clients sites. The majority of our courses are classroom based, interspersed with individual/group activities.
In these challenging times, what is your message and training response to food and drink companies?
It is false economy to significantly cut back or reduce expenditure on training as the lack of understanding of staff can lead to numerous „hidden‟ costs such as excessive materials waste or re-work, increased risk of complaints and prosecution and reduced morale i.e. „it‟s always investment if staff that is the first thing to be cut…‟
How do you see your
involvement with the Academy
progressing?
We would like to believe that both NSF CMi and the Academy can learn from each other in terms of providing affordable, targeted training that achieves results and brings about mutual benefits as well as for the relevant employers. We are new members to the Academy this year but already have strong relationships with many customers in the food industry, within manufacturing as well as catering, retail and leisure.
We are a Corporate Member of the Society of Food Hygiene & Technology, Leatherhead Food Research Association and Reading Scientific Emergency Response Service, meaning that we are constantly engaged with a wide variety of food specialists in addition to their client base, we bring this experience and understanding to Academy members.
If you had a ‘magic wand’ for the day what two things would you do to help support
employers in the food and drink sector?
One would be to provide cover to allow staff time off for focussed training whilst the „day job‟ still gets done.
Secondly, to instantly make top management/senior executive aware of the tremendous benefits a strong and implemented training programme can bring to business rather than just seeing the immediate investment costs!
